This short course provides a broad introduction to the trainer function.  The effectiveness of in house training will be enhanced as trainers extend their range of learning and teaching strategies and classroom management techniques, and develop both their confidence and understanding of the training role.

This course is aimed at pre-service or in-service tutors and trainers. and ideal if you:

  • Would like or require an introduction to teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector 
  • Are seeking career progression within their area of work
  • Train on a one-to-one and/or group basis
  • Trainers in the Lifelong Learning sector, for example adult and community education, work-based learning and the voluntary sector.

There are five sections in this award:

  • Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
  • Understand teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
  • Demonstrate session planning skills
  • Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
  • Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping.

This course is a pre-requisite for CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector).

After successful completion of this course, you may progress to

  • City & Guilds Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector SQA HNC in Learning and Development
  • S/NVQ Level  3 or 4 in Learning and Development.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, but candidates must be considering a subject for delivery and be aiming to achieve/or have achieved a qualification and experience for their subject or skill at the appropriate level.
