SVQs are work-based qualifications, which set the level of competence required by Health and Social Care workers. Assessment of competence in practice will be assessed in the workplace and Induction will consist of five single days in the college.

This Award is acceptable for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council. The Award consists of eight units: four Mandatory Units and four

Optional Units including:

  • Promote effective communications for and about individuals.
  • Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the working environment.
  • Reflect on and develop your practice.
  • Promote choice, well being and the protection of all individuals.

Entry requirements

Candidates must be working in a care setting and be involved in a broad range of activities in a variety of contexts. You should be involved in some capacity with the Care Planning process and work with other professionals in the planning and implementation of care services. You should be involved in writing and updating records and reports.
