This course is aimed at childminders; nursery staff; care workers; hospital staff; bar, restaurant and retail staff; beauty and holistic therapists.

Infection Control is designed on the principle that the greater number of health care workers with direct or indirect patient/client contact who have an understanding of the basic infection control precautions, the greater the chance of promoting high personal standards and reducing the number of healthcare associated infections in Scotland. The Level 1 course is suitable for those who wish to refresh their knowledge.

You will explore micro organisms and other causes of infection; methods of spread and modes of transmission of infection; risk factors for infection.

Course content includes:

  • Standard Infection Control Precautions, and Health and Safety measures
  • Hand hygiene
  • Prevention of occupational exposure to infection
  • Management of blood and body-fluid spillages
  • Environmental control
  • Safe disposal of waste, clinical waste and sharps
  • Safe handling, transport and process of linen.

Action Planning

  • Legislation and guidance
  • Projects in infection control: promoting hand hygiene
  • Barriers to effective infection control
  • Using knowledge to reduce the incidence of infection
  • Routes to enhanced competence in preventing infection.

Duration: 1 Day or 2 Evenings
